MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — On the eve of the start of high school football preseason training camps in West Virginia, WVU has secured a verbal commitment from one of the state’s top recruits in the Class of 2024.
Cabell Midland High School rising senior Curtis Jones Jr. offered his verbal commitment to become a Mountaineer on Sunday.

Jones Jr. is entering his second season as a running back and linebacker at CMHS. He began his prep career at Huntington High School and helped the Highlanders to reach the 2021 Class AAA state championship game.
In 2022, Jones Jr. rushed for 1,1119 yards and 11 touchdowns in the regular season. He is expected to play linebacker at West Virginia.
Jones Jr. is the second in-state commitment for WVU to date in the Class of 2024. He joins Jefferson defensive back Keyshawn Robinson in the group.
Jones Jr. received a scholarship offer from West Virginia on June 23. He also holds Division I offers from Eastern Kentucky, Marshall and Toledo.
